This remarkable quartet – hailed as "a triumph of ensemble playing" by the New York Times – is a multi-faceted ensemble taking chamber music in new directions. Touring music of the masters as well as exciting original works from visionary composers of our time, the Fry Street Quartet has perfected a "blend of technical precision and scorching spontaneity" (The Strad). Since securing the Grand Prize at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, the quartet has reached audiences from Carnegie Hall to London, and Sarajevo to Jerusalem, exploring the medium of the string quartet and its life-affirming potential with "profound understanding...depth of expression, and stunning technical astuteness" (Deseret Morning News).

Jane Hatter is a cultural musicologist who joined the faculty of the U’s School of Music in Fall 2015. Her research into the cultural and social contexts for music in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries is motivated by a desire to reveal the hidden networks that generated and promoted musical knowledge and practice.

Dan Wilson Guitar Concert

Music has been an integral part of Dan Wilson's life since his beginnings in gospel music. Upon hearing a Wes Montgomery record in a relative's basement, Dan decided to pursue a career as a musician. Since then, he has spent more than a decade honing his craft. His debut album, To Whom It May Concern was released in 2012 and is a product of an intense study of many different musical styles and concepts. His most recent album, Balancing Act was recorded live in his hometown of Akron, Ohio.

Tracy Richardson Lecture

Tracy Richardson (doctor of music therapy) – Dr. Tracy Richardson is a professor of music therapy and chairperson of the Music and Theatre Department at St. Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC). She has been a board-certified music therapist for 31 years, has a doctorate in counselor education and has worked with people with a variety of mental and physical health issues. She specializes in use of clinical songwriting, implements music therapy for patients on a local oncology unit, and consults with companies on musical teambuilding. Dr. Richardson is a singer/songwriter with two original CDs and has opened for many artists, including George Strait and Randy Travis. She was inducted into the Wabash Valley Musicians Hall of Fame in 2016 and is a member of the Nashville Songwriters Association International.

Traversing the Boundaries Lecture Series: Abigail Shupe

Abigail Shupe (assistant professor of music theory) – Dr. Abigail Shupe is assistant professor of music theory in the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance at Colorado State University. Her research interests include the French Enlightenment, Jean-Philippe Rameau, and early theories of harmony, as well as issues of death and mortality in the music of George Crumb. She is an active presenter at conferences across the U.S. and Canada. Shupe’s work appears in Theoria, the journal of historical music theory, and in the edited volume, Singing Death (2017). Shupe is expanding her research into a monograph on death and the American landscape in Crumb’s music.

The word "muses" describes a person or personified force who is the source of inspiration for a creative artist. Greek goddesses protected music and the arts. This annual concert highlights the music therapists' creative inspiration, combining what they know about music with what they know about their client, to create a musical road to healing. Concert goers will hear original, contemporary and classical vocal and instrumental music specifically chosen to represent the experience that a music therapist might design for a client.

Logan Canyon Winds Recital

Logan Canyon Winds was founded in 1991 as Utah State University's Faculty Woodwind Quintet, giving a debut performance in May of 1992. Logan Canyon Winds has appeared on the Uintah Arts Council Concert Series, the Salt Lake City Brown Bag Concert Series, the Mississippi State University Lyceum Series and the Utah State University Faculty Recital Series. They have performed at the University of Montana, at Brigham Young University-Idaho, on Temple Square in Salt Lake City, at the University of Central Florida, and at the 1998 and 2000 National Conferences of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association. The ensemble has also presented sessions for MENC: The National Association for Music Education and performed at the 2007 National Conference of Chamber Music America in New York City.
