Avian Adventures in Migration

Special Event

The first of four bird tours on the Swaner Preserve in 2017! Tour will be led by Kenny Frisch, legendary Utah birder. Please be sure to wear hiking shoes or boots that can get wet, and be prepared for uneven soggy ground. We will provide binoculars for each attendee, or bring your own if you have a pair you prefer. Registration is required to attend, and spots fill fast! Registration fee includes an Avian Adventures in Migration hat!

SSI Swiftwater Rescue Course

Recreation

This three day-24hr. course meets the needs of professional river guides as well as USFS and BLM employees. Recreational river runners or anyone finding themselves working on or near moving water will gain valuable techniques in dealing with water hazards and emergencies. This intensive 24 hour class generally has two to three hours of on-land instruction each morning prior to entering the water. Course focus is on wilderness-based rescues with limited rescue resources, personnel and communication. This course is designed to meet varying student skill levels. Self rescue and hazard avoidance and recognition are key components in this swiftwater course. This course is instructed by Swiftwater Safety Institute(SSI) in partnership with the Outdoor Recreation Program. For more information on SSI visit: swiftwatersafetyinstitute.com

The 80-hour WFR course provides participants with the knowledge and skills to respond to medical and traumatic emergencies in remote locations. The first 30 hours consist of self-directed online modules followed by 50 hours of hands on instruction. The online portion must be completed prior to the start of the classroom sessions. Wilderness First Responder Re-Certification

This course may be used to refresh a Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA), Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or Wilderness EMT (wilderness section only) certifications. The 3-day course is heavily scenario based and will provide a review and update of wilderness medicine treatment practices, protocols and evacuation guidelines. On day one we will jump right into scenarios and move through the course curriculum at a fast pace. While we cannot cover the entire course in only three days you are responsible for the entire curriculum. To better prepare you for success we provide you with a study guide that must be completed and handed into your instructors the morning of the first day of class. Prerequisites: Previous WFR certifications must have be at least 72-hours in length. All participants must have completed and returned the refresher course study guide to the course instructors the first day of class (Click on link below for more information)

Saturday Nature Walk
